Most patients arrive having researched Cytotron therapy or NK cell immunotherapy in isolation. What they discover at Pathways to Heal is something different: a structured, physician-supervised four-week protocol that combines both modalities into a coordinated clinical program — with a clear daily rhythm, consistent oversight, and a defined follow-up path after they return home.
The Protocol at a Glance
The Pathways to Heal integrative oncology program runs four weeks at our partner clinical facility in Naucalpan de Juárez, in the greater Mexico City metropolitan area. The program combines:
- Daily Cytotron RFQMR sessions — 60 minutes per session, five days per week, targeting solid tumors mapped via MRI
- Eight NK cell immunotherapy infusions — spaced across the four weeks at intervals designed to optimize immune activation
- Clinical monitoring — bloodwork, vital signs, and physician check-ins throughout the program
- Nutritional and integrative support guidance — recommendations from Dr. Sosa's team to support immune function and overall resilience during treatment
Everything takes place under the direct supervision of Dr. Carlos Armando Sosa Luna, who personally reviews every patient's case before the program begins and remains clinically involved throughout.
International Patients Welcome: Pathways to Heal primarily serves patients traveling from the United States, Canada, and Latin America. Mexico City is served by direct flights from most major US hubs. Our patient coordinator team assists with logistics, housing recommendations, and program scheduling from first inquiry to departure.
Before You Arrive: The Intake Process
The program begins before any patient sets foot in Mexico City. Dr. Sosa conducts a thorough intake review of every prospective patient — including diagnosis documentation, pathology reports, prior treatment history, current imaging, and current medications.
This isn't a formality. The intake process determines whether a patient is a suitable candidate for the combined protocol, what NK cell dosing tier is appropriate, what Cytotron targeting parameters should be used, and whether any contraindications need to be addressed before treatment begins.
Submit Intake Form
Complete the online medical intake form with your diagnosis, staging, treatment history, and current medications. Upload available imaging reports (MRI, CT, PET).
Case Review by Dr. Sosa
Dr. Sosa personally reviews your file and determines candidacy. This typically takes 24–48 hours. You will receive a response with an initial assessment and, if appropriate, next steps.
Consultation Call
A video or phone consultation with Dr. Sosa and/or the patient coordinator to review the proposed protocol, answer questions, discuss costs, and confirm your program dates.
Logistics & Scheduling
Our team assists with travel planning, accommodations recommendations, and pre-arrival preparation — including any baseline labs or imaging you may need before starting the program.
Week by Week: The Patient Experience
Here is what a typical four-week program looks like from arrival to departure. Individual schedules may vary based on the patient's protocol and clinical needs.
Arrival, Assessment & First Treatments
The first week is focused on orientation, baseline testing, and beginning both treatment modalities at a measured pace. Most patients receive their first NK cell infusion within the first two days of arrival, following a brief clinical assessment and blood draw.
- Clinical orientation and facility walkthrough with the care team
- Baseline bloodwork and vitals reviewed by Dr. Sosa
- First Cytotron session — 60 minutes, no pain or discomfort; most patients rest or listen to music
- First NK cell infusion (30–60 minutes IV), monitored by clinical staff
- Daily Cytotron sessions begin Monday through Friday
Many patients report feeling apprehensive about the first week and leaving it reassured. The pace is gradual; the environment is calm. There is no hospital feel — the clinical setting is quiet and intentional.
Finding the Rhythm of Treatment
By the second week, most patients have settled into the daily rhythm of the program. Cytotron sessions are routine. The second and third NK cell infusions occur during this week, spaced to allow the immune system to process and build on each prior administration.
- Continued daily Cytotron sessions (60 min, Mon–Fri)
- 2nd and 3rd NK cell infusions administered and monitored
- Bloodwork review — Dr. Sosa assesses immune markers and tolerability
- Nutritional support and lifestyle guidance check-in
Some patients report mild fatigue during Week 2 — a common sign of active immune engagement rather than a cause for concern. Dr. Sosa's team monitors for any side effects and adjusts the pace if needed.
Peak Treatment Intensity
Week 3 represents the core of the immunological protocol. Three NK cell infusions are typically scheduled during this week, with Cytotron continuing its daily schedule. This is often the week where cumulative immune engagement is most active.
- Continued daily Cytotron sessions
- 4th, 5th, and 6th NK cell infusions
- Midpoint clinical review with Dr. Sosa — tolerability, blood markers, symptom check
- Any protocol adjustments made based on individual response
Most patients continue to feel well and functional during Week 3. The Cytotron sessions produce no discomfort, and NK infusions are brief and well-tolerated in the majority of cases. Daily life between clinic hours is typically unrestricted.
Completing the Course & Preparing for Departure
The final week wraps up the treatment course, completes the NK cell infusion series, and transitions the patient toward home-based follow-up. Dr. Sosa conducts a closing clinical review and provides written documentation of the completed protocol.
- Final Cytotron sessions (completing approximately 20 total)
- 7th and 8th NK cell infusions — completing the 8-infusion series
- Exit bloodwork and clinical assessment with Dr. Sosa
- Written protocol summary and follow-up instructions provided
- Guidance on imaging timing — when to schedule the first post-treatment scan
Most patients leave Week 4 with a clear follow-up plan, written documentation for their home oncologist, and defined next steps including imaging timing and when to reconnect with Dr. Sosa remotely.
Daily Life During the Program
A frequent question from prospective patients is: what is daily life actually like during four weeks in Mexico City?
Cytotron sessions run 60 minutes and are scheduled in the morning for most patients. NK infusion days add approximately 1–2 hours at the clinic. Outside of clinic hours, patients are free to explore Mexico City, rest, dine, and live normally. The program does not confine patients — they stay in nearby hotels or short-term rentals and commute to the clinic for their scheduled sessions.
Mexico City's Naucalpan area is well-equipped with restaurants, pharmacies, parks, and transportation. Many patients bring a companion — a spouse, family member, or caregiver — who can experience the city alongside them. The area is accessible and comfortable for international visitors.
Patients often describe the four weeks as surprisingly manageable — less like a hospitalization and more like a working trip abroad with a clear daily purpose.
— Patient Coordinator, Pathways to HealAfter the Program: Follow-Up and Next Steps
Returning home does not mean the relationship with Pathways to Heal ends. Dr. Sosa provides each departing patient with a clinical summary that can be shared with their home oncologist or specialist — documenting the completed protocol, dosing, and recommended follow-up parameters.
Follow-up imaging — typically an MRI, CT, or PET scan — is recommended at the 2–3 month mark following the start of treatment. This timing allows the immune system to complete the process of clearing apoptotic debris and for imaging to accurately reflect tumor response. Imaging too early can produce inconclusive or misleading results.
Remote follow-up consultations with Dr. Sosa are available to review imaging results, discuss response, and determine whether additional treatment cycles are warranted. Some patients return for a second program cycle; others transition to a monitoring-only period depending on their response and clinical objectives.
