Becoming a Patient
The first step is to reach out to our patient coordination team. We'll discuss your situation, answer your initial questions, and ask you to share your medical history and any recent records — pathology reports, imaging, and lab work.
Our medical director, Dr. Carlos Armando Sosa Luna, M.D., reviews each case personally to determine whether our integrative protocols are appropriate for your diagnosis. From there we'll outline a recommended treatment plan and walk you through scheduling.
To give you an accurate assessment, we typically request your most recent pathology report, relevant imaging (CT, PET, MRI), and current blood work. If your documents are in another language, our team can translate and interpret them as part of the review.
The more complete your records, the better we can tailor a protocol to your specific case.
We recommend reaching out as early as possible. After your case review, we'll work with you to find the best start date based on your treatment plan and travel logistics. Scheduling early gives you time to arrange travel, lodging, and any pre-treatment testing.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Having a trusted companion during treatment provides emotional support and helps with day-to-day logistics. Let our coordination team know in advance so we can plan accordingly for accommodations and scheduling.
Treatments & Therapies
Our integrative cancer immunotherapy approach combines several modalities tailored to each patient, including NK (Natural Killer) cell immunotherapy, dendritic cell therapy, Cytotron® RFQMR therapy, checkpoint inhibitors, bioactive peptide therapy, and IV micronutrient support.
Your specific protocol is determined by Dr. Sosa based on your diagnosis, prior treatments, and overall health.
Our therapies are integrative — they are designed to complement and work alongside conventional oncology care, not necessarily to replace it. Many of our patients arrive while still under the care of an oncologist at home.
We encourage every patient to maintain open communication with their existing care team. Decisions about your overall treatment should always be made together with your physicians.
There is no one-size-fits-all protocol at Pathways to Heal. After reviewing your diagnosis, pathology, and history, Dr. Sosa designs a plan specific to your case — selecting therapies, dosing, and sequencing based on your individual needs. Plans are adjusted as we monitor your response throughout treatment.
Every patient and every cancer is different, and we cannot and do not guarantee outcomes. Responses to treatment vary widely depending on diagnosis, stage, prior treatments, and individual factors.
What we can promise is a personalized, attentive approach and honest communication about what the available evidence does and does not support for your situation. We're glad to discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Location & Travel
Our clinic is located in Naucalpan de Juárez, Estado de México, in the greater Mexico City metropolitan area. The region is served by Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU), both with direct flights from major U.S. cities.
U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport to enter Mexico. Visitors from other countries may have additional visa requirements. We recommend checking with the nearest Mexican consulate or the official immigration authority well before your trip to confirm what applies to your nationality.
Our patient coordination team can recommend comfortable, convenient lodging near the clinic and help you arrange accommodations that fit your treatment schedule and budget. Many of our patients choose to stay in the Polanco area, which is centrally located to both the Cytotron Center and Pathways to Heal. Let us know your needs and we'll point you in the right direction.
We can assist with arranging airport transfers and local transportation to and from the clinic. Please coordinate these details with our team in advance so everything is in place when you arrive.
Payment & Insurance
Because every treatment plan is individualized, costs vary by the specific therapies, dosing, and length of your protocol. After Dr. Sosa reviews your case, we provide a clear, itemized estimate so you know exactly what to expect before committing.
We accept major credit cards and bank wire transfers. Our team will walk you through deposit requirements and the payment schedule when you book.
Pathways to Heal does not directly deal with insurance companies, because most insurance companies will not accept direct billing from facilities outside their home country. However, many companies will reimburse for international medical services. The only way to know for sure is to contact your insurance company and read your insurance agreement.
If you have health insurance, please check with your insurer to see whether they cover treatments in Mexico. If they agree to pay for the services, you will pay for your treatments in advance, then after you are discharged submit the bill to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please request the appropriate forms from our administrative team at the conclusion of your stay.
For patients from the USA, here is a sample company that some patients have successfully used in the past:
American Medical Health Alliance (AMHA)
Toll-Free: (800) 221-0817

If you have private insurance and have paid out-of-pocket for your medical expenses, American Medical Health Alliance can potentially help you obtain reimbursement for some of your treatments. Since 2007, AMHA has worked with patients who have Lyme disease, cancer, or other conditions who did not even think their insurance could be an option. Keep in mind that every insurance company is different and there are no guarantees of a successful insurance payment — each insurer sells many different policies, and each policy has a different benefit structure. For a free evaluation of your insurance and to discuss how the process works, contact AMHA directly at 1-800-221-0817.
What to Expect
Our clinical and coordination teams work in both English and Spanish. We routinely translate medical documents, lab results, and reports for our international patients, and you'll always be able to communicate comfortably with your care team.
The length of stay depends on your protocol, but a typical protocol consists of four weeks of active treatment. Some programs may be shorter or involve additional follow-up cycles. Dr. Sosa will outline the expected timeline as part of your personalized plan.
Of course. You'll be able to keep in contact with loved ones throughout your stay, and we welcome companions to be part of your treatment journey. Our team is also happy to keep designated family members informed with your consent.
Care doesn't end when you head home. We provide guidance on follow-up, can coordinate with your home physicians, and remain available to support continuity of care. Where appropriate, follow-up monitoring and additional cycles are scheduled as part of your ongoing plan.
